A party to talk about art | Emiko KASAHARA [ART de NIGHT part 4 | The personal is political, The political is personal, and that is aesthetical]

I come to organize ART de NIGHT to obtain a casual occasion to get together, eat, drink together and to talk together about art, culture and politics. I will pick a topic each time to start the conversation with but we can freely shuffle any themes. This time the topic is “The personal is political, The political is personal, and that is aesthetical”.

Kasahara’s early works examined relationships between women and society with a focus on the body. In recent years she conducts field research and produce installations that point up the ambiguity of culturally defined systems such as gender, religion, nationality, and language by using a wide range of techniques and methods: sculptures, photographs, videos, performances and drawings. Her work has internationally exhibited at many venues includes PARASOFIA (2015), Yokohama Triennale (2014), Sydney Biennale (2004), Kwangju Biennale (2000) and solo exhibitions in both Japan and the US.
