The invention of sound recording system in 20th century, and especially that of the stereophonic system, made us the listeners to be accustomed to “PLANERY” sound, packed to be quasi-2-dimensional world.

Stereo speakers are set in Right and Left; not Upwords and Downwords. Up to the end of 19th century . in Opera and Liturgy, sounds and voices from vertical distance were quite common; voices from the top of the cealing, or distant echo from the underground etc. etc.

Now it’ time to look back ― or listen back to this missing dimension of the sound ― vertical freedom! Let’s think over it, with playing Wagner’s Music Drama “Tristan and Isolde” and others.
