Performance | Zen-go [ Before or After ]

Forenotice or inventory. When is it now at all? When nothing can be said about the middle, “before” and “after” come into existence, just like foresight or afterglow is needed to deal with something that cannot be caught by five senses. If you were presented the present, you will be locked out because you would arrive too early or too late, no matter which you would choose “X will happen from now” or “What happend now was X”.

Zen-go
Launched in 2011 by Megumi Kamimua (dancer/choreographer) and Shinichi Takashima (artist). They deal with human body, objects, and words aiming at maintaining a balance between improvisation and composition. They produce performance works which span both dance and visual art, treating the materiality of body and conception of it when bodies are recognized as the central theme.

Megumi Kamimura
Dancer/Choreographer. Started ballet training in her childhood. Since 2004 she has presented her solo works in various places in Japan and abroad. Kamimura Megumi Company was founded in 2006. In 2010 she was selected as a finalist of Toyota Choreography Award. In 2014, the latest company piece “Gut pathos” was presented at ST Spot in Yokohama. Kamimura’s approach to space, her creation of movements that are at the same time simple and intense, gained her wide attention in the Japanese theater and dance scene.

Shinichi Takashima
Artist, born in Tokyo 1978. He has been creating performance and video works since 2003. His motivation derives from the floating feeling (sensation of zero-gravity) which is gained by treating his own body materially and functionally. Major solo exhibitions;“One foot on the moon” (05), “These fallish things” (08) (Gallery Objective Correlative, Tokyo). Major exhibitions/performances; “Body as Interimage” (Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media, 09), “14 Evenings”(The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, 12), “exonym/endonym”(as the performance unit”Zen-go” in Brooklyn International Performance Art Festival) .
