Yu Araki
Yu Araki (b.1985, Japan) is a video artist whose work explores ‘unknown territory’ through the relationship between the camera and notions of the self. Ranging from his own internal body to foreign communities, Araki approaches each new project with a careful consideration for both site and medium specificity, often allowing conditions for making to be dictated by the working environment and available materials. Araki received his B.F.A. in Sculpture from Washington University in St. Louis Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts (USA) in 2007, and completed his M.A. in New Media from Tokyo University of the Arts (Japan) in 2010. In 2014, Araki had 2 solo exhibitions entitled “MOTHERLANDS” (JIKKA) and “WRONG TRANSLATION” (The Container) in Tokyo.
